Introduction to Modern Physics

  • Combine this unit with two others to form the module 'Introduction to Physics Specialisms'

During this unit you will begin your education in speciality physics by studying introductory topics in the fundamental building blocks of the Universe, and the ways in which they are studied, including examples from elementary particle physics.

The environment in which large modern experiments are conducted will be discussed, and examples of dissemination and impacts of the results will be described.

You will attend lectures, solve problems and discuss topical areas of speciality physics with your peers and staff.

Topics Covered

  • Introduction to how example large experiments in physics are conducted
  • Introduction to how our knowledge of the Universe has developed
  • Introduction to key questions that remain open
