Living the Anthropocene

This module provides you with an in-depth introduction to the Anthropocene. In particular, it focuses on the ways in which humans have become geological agents, and on the effects that such agency has on Earth’s bio-physical systems.

Lectures begin with the philosophical basis for addressing the Anthropocene from multi-disciplinary perspectives. They then turn to consider the interrelation between the historical and contemporary social, political and economic drivers of the Anthropocene and the ways in which these impact physical processes and systems at the planetary scale. Seminars, workshops and other practical sessions provide hands-on opportunities to put theory into practice and explore the ways in which the Anthropocene materialises around us in our everyday environments.
