Extended Reality (XR) is an umbrella term that refers to a broad spectrum of immersive technologies that combine the physical and virtual worlds. It includes a range of technologies that merge or extend reality to create new experiences for users. XR encompasses Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR), each of which offers different ways to interact with digital environments or enhance real-world experiences. Virtual Reality is an entirely immersive experience where users are placed into a computer-generated virtual environment. Augmented Reality overlays digital content onto the real world, enhancing the user's view of their physical environment. Mixed Reality is a more advanced form of AR that not only overlays digital content onto the real world, but also allows for interactions between the real and virtual elements. These technologies are reshaping industries from gaming to healthcare, education, and beyond, creating new ways for users to interact with both digital and physical worlds.
