This module in human molecular genetics is designed to provide an understanding of basic genetic principles. The module will address some of the important issues in genetics including genome mapping and the role of gene dysfunction in disease. Topics covered include the basic principles of inheritance, the molecular structure of chromosomes and DNA replication, the Human Genome Project, DNA profiling and forensic investigation, interpretation and applications of forensic DNA analysis, mutation and DNA repair, genes in cancer and genetic disorders.
