Blood Distribution and Spatter
Module code: CH7900
Learn how to understand the function of blood spatter interpretation in crime scene reconstruction along with the physical forces that are involved in the flight and droplet dynamics of blood, the geometric parameters used to determine directionality and the angle of impact of blood and the origin of blood staining. This module will enable students to know the physical and chemical nature of blood and the identifying characteristics of different types of blood stains, understand the function and structural differences of specified components of the circulatory system and understand the physiological mechanisms initiated when this system is breached or damaged. Students will become familiar with the terminology used routinely in blood spatter interpretation, understand the importance and methods of crime scene documentation and reconstruction and understand the legal and forensic implications and limitations of blood spatter interpretation for courtroom testimony.
