Feminism

Module code: PL3060

Feminism is one of the key social movements of the last two centuries. The fight for true equality of the sexes is one that is as important today as ever, and this module will introduce you to key concepts, variants and discussions within feminism.

You'll look closely at the numerous different variants of feminism, and will be able to explain and interpret these. You'll get the chance to analyse and distinguish between the different 'waves' of feminism, evaluating each of their overriding goals. A major development in the past 30 years has been the concept of intersectionality, and you'll critically assess its impact on feminist theory. Furthermore, you'll look at the significance of issues such as prostitution, pornography, political representation, political protest and the gender pay gap for feminism, both now and historically.
