Mathematical Physics 2

Module code: PA2710

The module builds on the mathematics covered in year 1, and continues to develop the mathematical techniques that are necessary in many areas of higher level physics. These include Institute of Physics “core of physics” material on vector calculus, Fourier series and transforms, and partial differential equations.

During this module you will develop skills and problem solving abilities that are essential for understanding mathematical physics in areas of higher level physics. Alongside lectures, active problem solving workshops and seminars will supplement your learning. This module will develop your transferable skills in problem solving and communication, and the mathematical skills that are an essential for year-3 core material.

Topics covered

  • Partial differential equations
  • Fourier series, transforms and the convolution theorem
  • Vector calculus
