Evidence Based Practice in the Perioperative Environment

You will have the opportunity to engage in activities that provide a focus for personal research, reading, analysis and application of evidence based practice. This learning provides scope for development of skills of discrimination, judgement and presentation. The module will provide the experience to support and promote clinical effectiveness by applying an evidence based approach to Operating Department Practice.

This module will introduce the concepts of evidence-based practice (EBP), whilst lectures, seminars and practical sessions will enable you to develop the key skills related to EBP. You will identify an issue arising from your area of clinical practice and will be guided in developing this into a focused question. You will then be guided through the processes of locating evidence to answer your question. You will develop critical appraisal skills in order to determine if the identified evidence can be applied in clinical practice. You will explore issues relating to the introduction of evidence into the clinical environment and strategies for managing change.
