Midwifery Practice 4

Module code: MW4001 (double module)

This module will be delivered through a series of lectures, workshops, simulation in the skills laboratory and clinical practice, where you will learn, participate and initiate the care and support women experiencing normal and complex childbirth, under indirect supervision of practising midwives.

This module is an opportunity for you to develop effective communication and interpersonal skills in leading a ward-based midwifery team with support from a midwife practice supervisor/leadership mentor, supporting childbearing women and their families in a range of normal and complex conditions. You will critically evaluate maternity care utilising contemporary evidence to compare a small caseload of women with normal and complex health and social care during pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period. Within this final practice module, your decision making skills will be further developed, taking into account the holistic need of the family, including supporting mothering and infant feeding choices.
