Introduction to Heritage and Interpretation

This module will teach you to:
- Develop an understanding of the historical development of ‘heritage’ as a concept and demonstrate an awareness of the disciplinary frameworks of heritage and their contested nature
- Distinguish between and discuss different definitions of heritage and the values attributed to them in different societies and amongst various communities today, including notions of tangible and intangible heritage
- Understand how interpretive processes and practices affect the ways in which heritage is practised and understood
- Demonstrate familiarity with UK and international policies and practices in heritage
- Show an ability to work with a range of sources and data to develop and substantiate a critical argument
