Module Outline

This is a module designed to engage you with current issues of media and conflict, specifically war coverage and the effect of ICTs on the reporting of war, spin and propaganda practices. The module looks at the theories, different approaches to media and conflict and specific reports form global hotspots around the world, in direct reference to the revolution in technology and military affairs, as well as global security and its coverage by diverse media industries, from traditional actors to social media. You will learn how to analyse reports from these global hotspots and you will produce essays to critically compare and contrast reporting from different media, including separatist, propagandist and insurgent media to engage with the problematique of media, new technologies and war.
