This module introduces many aspects of the corporate world to you including the firm, equity, issuing shares, costs of issue, rights issues, warrants convertibles and valuation of a company. You'll also look at mergers, growth and failure, disinvestment and how different kinds of businesses are affected.

  • Analyse the determinants of firm value and equity value
  • Calculate cost of capital (equity and debt) 
  • Identify the existing and potential mix of debt and equity used by the firm 
  • Discuss the theoretical and empirical debates on capital structure 
  • Explore how firms move towards an optimal debt ratio and how to choose the right financing vehicles 
  • Discuss the theoretical and empirical debates on dividend policy
