Managing Knowledge in Organisations

Module code: MN3110

We live in an age where we have more information at our fingertips than ever but we're never far away from misinformation and fake news. Do we know more than ever before? Do we even know what knowledge is?

Knowledge is an important theme for business and management academia and, in this module, you will explore the meaning, management, effects and relationships behind how and what we know.

By the end of this module, you'll be able to explain what knowledge management is and why it is of importance to organisations. You'll be capable of discussing the effects of changing economic and organisational contexts on knowledge. You'll be adept at describing different conceptualisations of the nature, content, and location of knowledge. You'll feel comfortable analysing the role of ICT in managing knowledge, as well as its limitations. Plus, you'll be able to critique the impact of social and political processes on knowledge creation, sharing and diffusion and, in particular, the role of informal organisations such as social networks.
