The Holocaust: Genocide in Europe

This course will examine the events leading to the Holocaust, and the range of Jewish responses. It also aims to provide an understanding of the methodological and conceptual issues involved in interpreting and representing the Holocaust. Topics include the discrimination of the Jewish population in Germany and Austria, the ghettos and the Jewish Councils, popular reactions in Germany, the Einsatzgruppen, the extermination of the Roma, the camp system, non-German agendas in Eastern and South-eastern Europe, the reaction of the non-Jewish population in occupied Europe and of the allied governments.
