Screen Affect

Module code: HA3433

The concept of affect understood as pre-subjective and relational force has become a significant theoretical tool in understanding film, video, televisual images and time-based contemporary art. Theories of affect shift the focus in film, media and cultural studies from that of representation, meaning and signification to process, movement, materiality and sensation. This module will explore the complex workings of affect across film and screen media from early 20th century to its digital forms, with particular attention to contemporary social, theoretical, cultural and political debates.
