Introduction to GIS

Module code: GY7021

Geographic Information Systems (abbreviated to GIS) is a system that is designed to capture and present geographic or spatial data. In this module, we will explore the key concepts and techniques in GIS through practical experience and exposure to state-of-the-art software. You will obtain deeper knowledge of the relative strengths and weaknesses of various spatial data structures such as vector and raster encoding, object-oriented, topological and non-topological storage formats.

We will create efficient and effective geodatabases using data input from digital and manual sources and use basic tools for data manipulation, database management, spatial analysis and cartographic presentation.
