By the end of this module, students will be able to:

  • Outline key features of philosophical approaches adopted with contemporary geography
  • Recognise key concepts associated with specific approaches
  • Evaluate substantive research studies in human geography in relation to the philosophical context in which they emerged
  • Recognise connections between philosophical approaches and the selection of research mythologies and practices
  • Outline key features of methodological strategies used in conducting and analysing human and geographical research
  • Recognise and appreciate the moral and ethical dimensions of undertaking research in human geography
