Introduction to French Linguistics

This module will introduce you to a range of topics related to the broad field of French linguistics. The module is divided into two main parts; in one part, we will focus on the internal features of the French language, including: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. In the other part, we will consider the topics of language change and variation, the historical development of the French language, the standardisation of the French language, linguistic diversity in France, and the position of French across the world.
