This module provides an introduction to the oldest forms of the English language, Old English (c. 500 AD to c. 1100 AD). Throughout the course of the module, you'll learn about the inflexional morphology of Old English and about phonological processes relevant to understanding this morphology. You'll apply this knowledge through learning to read and translate Old English texts, and will also become familiar with various dictionaries and grammars of Old English. The module will train you in the analysis of aspects of Old English Lexis, morphology, phonology and metrics.
