Placement and Practice-based Research Project

This placement module allows you to undergo a six week criminological placement, incorporating fieldwork time where you will collect data for your practice-based research project. The placement can either be a six week block or another arrangement negotiated with the placement provider and the module leader. During this placement you will conduct a practice-based criminological research project and apply criminological theory and knowledge to understand and propose solutions to criminal justice-related policies and/or practices. This will help you understand how academic research can be used by criminal justice practitioners to inform policy and practice and develop your oral and communication skills. You will have continued guidance in the form of tutorials (face-to-face, email, Skype or telephone) with your placement tutor, ongoing supervision, and workshops focusing on writing the placement report and writing for non-academic audiences.
