Working in and Experiences of the Criminal Justice System

This module builds on the knowledge acquired in the first year of the programme on the role of the Forensic Psychology specifically within the criminal justice system, and the historical development of Forensic Psychology both in the UK and internationally. The module introduces you to legal systems and the application of psychology within these settings. You will learn about the impact of working within the criminal justice system for professionals, including police officers, barristers, and judges in relation to issues such burnout and stress; you will learn about victims’ and witnesses’ experiences of the criminal justice system; and you will learn about the training of criminal justice professionals in undertaking their roles.
