Managing Security in the Workplace

In this module you will consider the importance of management to security and the key management skills required. Building on the concepts, models and principles of management you gained earlier in your course, you will learn how to apply different managerial techniques in a workplace setting.
Communicating the security message - within an organisation or to potential clients - is one such essential skill, so we will explore the concept of marketing and its relevance to security, including discussion of marketing techniques and strategies. We will considers the role, importance and process of human resource management (HRM), including recruitment, performance management and training. We will also look at the financial/accounting principles and procedures that any successful manager with a budget needs to understand. You will learn how to read and understand financial statements effectively, how to make budget decisions on a sound basis, and how to evaluate and justify expenditure to others. All of these management skills are key in becoming an effective security manager.
