MSc Research Project
Module code: CH7061/CH7062/CH7063
You're undertaking an MSc, and the Research Project will test your mastery of chemical science like no other. In groups, you'll be undertaking a full-scale project as part of our Department's active research group. You'll be at the forefront of chemistry, undertaking pioneering research which will help to unlock understanding and knowledge about your chosen topic.
The project is split into three parts.
In part one, you'll be undertaking the project itself. This will test your professional research abilities, and you'll need to ensure high levels of practical competence, initiative, commitment and organisation.
In part two, you will get the chance to communicate your pioneering research to a wider audience by producing a logical, concise, professional report which communicates the project background and results effectively
In part three of the project, you will undergo a viva examination, which is an oral presentation where you will defend your report. This will test your understanding of your work and its context compared to existing research.
This module will test your abilities in planning, organisation and record keeping, literature searching, practical laboratory skills, data analysis, report writing and oral presentation skills. These skills will be invaluable in the future, whether you decide to continue in an academic setting, seek further work in chemistry or chemical research or take a different professional path.
