Introduction to Linux

This module will introduce you to Ubuntu Linux and the basic skills necessary to progress through your degree. You will learn how to configure your computer to allow access to local file-storage systems, e-mail, FTP servers, and to useful websites. We will cover the installation of software and applying updates and patches. We will also explore the details of the Linux operating system including files, archives and compression systems, which will provide a basis for more advanced aspects of configuring the computer and installing software. There will also be a basic introduction to HTML and CSS, providing a basic grounding in the concepts of web-page design.
