Field Research Project A (Operation Wallacea)

Module code: BS3501

If you are interested in ecology and conservation, then this is the module for you as it provides a wonderful opportunity to gain highly relevant field experience. Working with Operation Wallacea (Opwall) - an organisation that runs a series of biological and conservation management research programmes operating across the globe – the University of Leicester has created the Field Research Project module. If you wish to undertake the 6 week summer undergraduate thesis programme with Opwall then you will be able to use the research you conduct for their final year research project.  The university provides £500 towards the cost of the trip and advice and assistance will be provided to help with further financing as necessary.  This module offers the unusual opportunity to work with field research scientists from across the globe.

Skills gained during this module:

  • The ability to test a hypothesis using appropriate field-based experimental techniques
  • Development of theoretical, written and practical skills in preparing for and in conducting field-based experimental procedures, showing good fieldwork practice
