Research Bootcamp (on campus)

Module code: AR3601

The practical analysis of materials is a core skillset for any good archaeologist. In this module you will attend the University of Leicester campus for a series of workshops designed to expose you to the analysis of core archaeological materials that may include stone and metal tools, and human and animal bones. You will be given expert instruction in how archaeologists undertake the basic elements of materials analysis, hands-on and face-to-face. You will be active participants collecting your own research data under supervision. Over a period of five days you will attend workshops designed specifically to provide you with an introduction to a particular class of material. These workshops will give you the opportunity to put what you are learning into practice. Our final workshop, at the end of the week, will be focused on research methods and the development of your dissertation research topics.

Learning materials will consist of a set of specially designed and selected learning materials to facilitate a unique laboratory-based learning experience. Learning will take place in our purpose-built teaching laboratories. The focus of this module is on hands-on learning via the guidance of our expert teaching staff.
