100 years of the University Library: open house and centenary lecture
5 May 2023, 1.30pm - 5.00pm followed by drinks reception
Join the Library team for this special event to celebrate 100 years since our official opening on 5 May 1923. During the afternoon staff will be in our Digital Culture Studio with posters and interactive activities showcasing the past, present and future of the University Library. Tours of the building will be available throughout the event, with opportunities to explore some of our unique Archives and Special Collections. Visitors will also be able to view our latest exhibition, 'The Attenboroughs at Leicester', telling the story of our most famous Citizens of Change. Light refreshments will be served.
The open house event will be followed by a guest public lecture by Nick Poole, Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) in Lecture Theatre 3, Ken Edwards Building. Nick will speak on "Enduring values, changing roles – the past, present and future of libraries and information services". The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception in the Digital Culture Studio in the David Wilson Library.
