aFY projects

At the University of Leicester, Academic Foundation (aFY) trainees are able to choose their research project for their Foundation year 2 to suit their academic aspirations. The University offers opportunities to undertake research projects spanning the basic sciences through to clinical translational research, in all areas of medicine.

It is possible to undertake research with supervisors not included, but any proposed new supervisor and project will need to be agreed by the Clinical Academic Training Programme. Contact us to discuss and seek approval. The College has a list of Academic Champions, within each speciality who will be able to signpost you to someone who undertakes research within your chosen speciality.

We ask that all aFY 1 doctors contact potential research supervisors, and agree their project by 1 June before commencing year 2 of their academic foundation programme. When the project has been agreed the aFY 1 doctor must contact us to confirm who their supervisor will be and which project they plan to undertake.

Details of previous projects and supervisors may be found below by speciality. Please look through all the projects as there may be some that might suit you in clinical areas you were not necessarily considering.

This list is to be reviewed in the summer of 2020, however you are encouraged to contact the supervisors identified below to determine if a project would be available for you to undertake from August 2020, as many of the supervisors will continue to offer opportunities to aFY trainees.
