Clinical Academic Training

Specialised Foundation Programme – SFP projects

At the University of Leicester, Specialised Foundation research (SFP) trainees are able to choose their research undertaken in their second year to suit their academic aspirations. The University offers opportunities to undertake research projects spanning the basic sciences through to clinical translational research, in a wide range of clinical specialties.

A SFP may undertake research with a University of Leicester Academic or Honorary Academic who is not currently included in the list, but any proposed new supervisor and the project will need to be approved by the Clinical Academic Training Programme. Contact us to discuss and seek approval.

We ask that all SFP1 doctors contact potential research supervisors, and agree their supervisor and project no later than 1 June prior to commencing SFP2 in August. Once agreed the SFP must contact us to confirm who their supervisor will be and which project they plan to undertake.
