Graduate Toolkit
Interviews and assessments
So you’ve aced your job application and you’re through to the next stage of the recruitment process. Whether you’re now faced with psychometric tests, an assessment centre, or an interview we have put together some useful resources to help you stand out and succeed.
Shortlist.Me
Shortlist.Me is an employment-readiness video interviewing tool that will enable you to practice for any upcoming interviews and get better equipped through developmental feedback.
With a multitude of top graduate employer interviews on Shortlist.Me, the employer-accredited interviews will give you a feel of what companies are looking for when you interview. Shortlist.Me is also used by a wide range of employers in their actual interview processes and so practising with it will give you a much better and more realistic idea of what to expect.
How does it work?
Visit the Shortlist.Me marketplace, which is the homepage for all the interviews you have access to.
Submit a query through MyCareers requesting access to Shortlist.Me as a graduate. Once we have verified your graduate details you will then be given your access code. Then select the interview you'd like to practice with.
Practice
After choosing the interview type or specific company interview you’d like to practice with, go through the interview simulation to learn questions and develop your answers under interview conditions.
You will have a short amount of preparation time for each question (anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute and a half) and then have up to two minutes to answer. You can practice as many times as you would like on each question, or with different interviews.
It is important to remember not to disclose personal information when giving answers to the software. This includes any protected characteristics such as your age (date of birth), nationality, or even your name.
Role specific interviews (graduate interview; administrative support interview; sales interview)
These role specific interviews are a great resource for general interviewing practice for common roles that students or graduates would typically apply for.
Company specific interviews - (NHS; Barclays; Grant Thornton)
Company specific interviews will provide tailored questions for that particular company, with questions being carefully designed to make the interview as realistic as possible.
Independent review
After recording one answer, you can watch your answer and performance back, and then self-review using the detailed coaching points provided.
It is important to carefully consider if you meet all of the bullet points, and whether or not you could have done any better with that bullet point on one of those questions. For example, for a sales interview you may find the following question/bullet point: ‘Did you explain the pros and cons of your different persuasion methods?'
Self-reflect after watching your answer back, and if you have failed to tick yes, you may want to make another attempt at answering. You can re-record your answer as many times as you wish until you are happy with the attempt.
Once you have answered all six of the interview questions, you will be instructed to close the browser. You will then receive an email with a link. After clicking on this link it will enable you to view all of the generated feedback, including an ‘interview readiness score’ out of 100, your own self-assessment, and other AI feedback such as ‘time used’, ‘filler words’, and ‘speech rate’ for each question.
