Simon graduated in 1995 with a BA degree in Sociology and went on to become Head of Learning & Development for a national social care business.
Why did you choose to study Sociology at the University of Leicester?
I spoke to a family friend who was a professor of sociology. I felt inspired by him to study the subject, and when I was looking at universities, I was attracted by the reputation of Leicester and the feel of the campus and city.
How has studying Sociology influenced your career choice?
I think it helped me to take an interest in roles which have a sense of social good and for employers who play a positive role in society at large.
How has Sociology shaped your view of everyday life?
It has made me inquisitive about the world around me - I like to understand connections, causes and effects of different actions and behaviours in society.
What advice would you give to anyone considering studying Sociology?
Spend some time thinking about what a universal subject Sociology is - it reaches into so many areas, and a graduate in Sociology will emerge with a valuable and wider understanding of the world around you.
