Isotope Geochemistry and Palaeoenvironmental Research

Module code: GL3003

This module covers the general principals of isotope geochemistry, including notation, standardization, and mass spectrometry with regard to isotope research in environmental change. You’ll learn what O, H, and C isotopes in rainfall can tell us about the Earth's climate in the past, and how geochemical data from lakes, trees, speleothems (cave formations such as stalactites), ice cores, and archaeological materials can reveal climate change. You’ll also get the chance to visit the NERC Isotope Geosciences Laboratory at the British Geological Survey.
