The Historical Archaeology of England

Module code: AR7532

This module is a one-week residential field school based in Leicester around Easter each year, which introduces you to the three themes of landscapes, buildings and material culture, through structured visits to sites throughout the Midlands. This module is strongly recommended as a great chance to meet your tutors face-to-face, and it involves prior preparation through materials supplied as text books and on-line. All costs for this module except travel to the UK are included in the programme fee. Upon completion of this module you will be able to:

  • Analyse and interpret sets of contrasting evidence from fieldwork, material culture, landscapes, standing buildings and their relationships to documentary material.
  • Apply a critical understanding of the techniques available to later historical archaeologists to interpret historical landscapes.
  • Demonstrate a practical understanding of how different forms of evidence may be acquired and interpreted.
