American Studies in Action

Module code: AM3023

This module will allow you and your fellow students to meet and discuss your dissertations. Through these discussions, you will apply your knowledge of American Studies to contemporary debates and think about how an American Studies degree can be used outside University. For this module, we will work together to create a list of our weekly discussion topics, and over the course of the module, you’ll be offered a combination of skills-based and topic-based workshops. Topics might include: US presidential and local election campaigns and results, civil rights movements (eg Black Lives Matter), the #MeToo movement, economic inequality, the US-Mexico border, Supreme Court decisions, US foreign policy, popular culture, and more. Skills might include: pitching your dissertation to the public, writing a policy brief, writing an op-ed, creating a podcast, and more.
