Advanced Cognitive Neuroscience

Module code: PS3120

This module will provide an introduction to the range of methods available to contemporary cognitive neuroscientists. These include neuropharmacology, electrophysiology, neuropsychology, neuroimaging and transcranial magnetic stimulation. The contribution of each method in terms of understanding the relationship between neurophysiological and mental events will be examined at levels of description ranging from molecular processes to the computational functions performed by populations of neurons across distributed neural networks. Particular emphasis will be placed on the way physiological indices of mental function have informed our understanding of psychological processes and you will be encouraged to develop a critical approach to the application of convergent methods to advance theoretical models of perception, cognition and psychopathology.
