The Politics of Counter-Terrorism

Module code: PL3124

In 1883 British Home Secretary Sir William Harcourt founded the Special Irish Branch, the world's first specialised counter-terrorism unit. Since then, dealing with the threat posed by terrorists has been a key priority of politicians the world over. This module will introduce you to the politics behind what has been one of the defining issues of our time.

You'll look at domestic and international political anti-terrorism measures and the ethical dilemmas and issues raised. Additionally, you'll evaluate the key academic debates on counter-terrorism.
