Foundations of Professional Space Science and Engineering

Module code: PA7011

This module will provide a comprehensive introduction to the key scientific questions that space exploration seeks to answer. We will explore the differences and similarities in the development of space engineering from other engineering disciplines, with an emphasis on the unique challenges of space and the key requirements on space systems. In this module you will have the opportunity to develop your practical scientific and engineering skills in laboratory settings, and gain an awareness of the competencies required to achieve registration with an appropriate professional body. This module will highlight the challenges posed by astronomy missions and the fundamental principles of planetary geology, including:

  • Planetary formation
  • Planetary structure
  • Magnetic fields
  • Alteration processes
  • Planetary biology
