Midwifery Practice 3

Module code: MW3001

This module will be delivered through a series of lectures, workshops, simulation in the skills laboratory and clinical practice, where you will learn, participate and initiate the care to support women experiencing normal and complex childbirth, under minimal supervision of practising midwives.

You will continue to develop effective communication and interpersonal skills to support childbearing women and their families in a range of normal and complex situations, and will learn to differentiate when decisions to expedite transfer of care to other health professionals are warranted to reduce morbidity of the childbearing woman and/or fetus/neonate. You will learn how to competently demonstrate applying knowledge of psychological, social, emotional and spiritual factors that may positively or adversely influence normal childbirth physiology when planning midwifery and neonatal care. There will be discussions regarding mothering and feeding babies within complex situations. You will also learn to demonstrate knowledge and skills in recognising and managing maternal and neonatal emergencies.
