Module Outline

The module aims to help students to develop skills both in researching the processes of science communication and critically evaluating mediated science communication. By the end of the module students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of historical and social contexts of science communication, including the key theoretical and policy developments in the field
  • Critically assess the different transformations characterising science communication in the information age, such as the rise of science blogging, the politics of search engines, and the use of social media networks
  • Evaluate empirical research on science communication in different genres and settings
  • Analyse relevant case studies
