Contemporary Issues in International Financial Reporting

In this module, you will explore the nature and causes of international differences in financial reporting and compare different approaches to developing accounting rules and practices from a global perspective, placing international financial reporting in a broader social, institutional, political and cultural context.

You will examine institutional and external influences on accounting rules and practices, with particular emphasis on culture. You'll look at current issues in harmonisation/convergence of International Financial Reporting in the United States, Japan, India, China and Europe. You will also evaluate the problems of implementing the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in different jurisdictions.

You will examine the implications for global capital markets, companies and investors in an international context, consider contemporary issues in standard setting and appraise the political context of financial reporting standards.
