Employment Law for HR Practitioners

Employment law regulates the relationship between employers and employees. It governs what employers can expect from employees, what employers can ask employees to do and employees’ rights at work (CIPD 2022).

This module will introduce you to the foundations of employment law for application within the people profession.  Areas covered with the module include the legal requirements in relation to pay, discrimination and working time and the main principles of maternity, paternity and adoption rights in the context of employment. In addition you will cover the purpose and content of a contract of employment and defining employee status and the legal implications of the termination of employment.

The module uses a combination of teaching methods to analyse and apply employment law, to a range of workplace scenarios and situations.
