Introduction to Film History 1

Module code: HA1201

This module serves as an introduction to some of the key issues and themes in film history, covering the period from the origins of cinema at the end of the nineteenth century to the end of the 1940s. We consider important industrial and technological developments, such as the institutionalisation of the film industry and the advent of ‘talking pictures’, as well as different national cinemas and the Hollywood studio system.
