Critical Digital Geographies

Module code: GY3425

This final year module will reflect critically on the changing predominant philosophies of GIScience over time. You'll then consider from a critical angle the many emergent elements of digital geographies, such as the increased use of mobile devices and their impact on/creation of space and place, neogeographies and their expansion over the past 10 years.

The module will also evaluate the historical use of maps as a communication medium, from a cartesian and non-cartesian perspective, and link this theme to recent developments in map art and how it challenges the rigid structures and philosophies of GIScience.
