Introduction to French Studies

“French studies” is a wide-ranging and interdisciplinary subject area and our introductory module will provide you with key insights into this field of study. The programme will cover major events of French history of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and will introduce you to the critical analysis of films and written texts. It will enable you to understand contemporary French culture and politics as well as appreciate how history shapes the identity of a nation over time. This module is designed to equip you with a solid background to study further facets of French and francophone culture throughout your degree.
