Extended Dissertation

Module code: EN7228

This extended dissertation offers the opportunity to work on an extended project in one-on-one meetings with a supervisor. This module hones skills in planning, structuring long-form arguments, and in editing and critiquing your own ideas.

In consultation with tutors, you'll put forward a research proposal. After being assigned a supervisor, you'll plan and develop your project in drafts over the remainder of the course.

This module may appeal to you if you have established a well-defined interest early on in your course and have a track record in enjoying and successfully completing research projects at undergraduate level. The assessment includes a 15-minute presentation on your research work, given before fellow students and tutors, with feedback designed to assist with process of developing your argument.

Recent topics have included: 'Weaving power and feminine Identity: textiles in Medieval literature'; 'Love sickness, madness and despair in the tragedies of John Webster'; 'Menstruation in Victorian culture and society'; 'Representations of Loki's masculinity from Norse Mythology to Marvel fan fiction'.
