Anytime you empty out your bins, visit the doctor’s office or take the bus you are seeing how public economics affects our daily lives. Public economics is an area of economics focused on the public sector - how the government uses economic principles to provide services for its citizens. This module will help you investigate the different branches of government involved in public policies and address contemporary issues facing the world and how the government allocates scarce resources to key areas of the public sector.

You will look at how the taxes we pay play into how much funding and government expenditures is available for areas of contemporary social problems - healthcare, transport, social policy and the environment. By doing this module you will look at these modern-day issues and use economic analysis to see how the government directly intervenes and provides for its citizens.
