Probability and Probability Distributions

Module code: EC1011

Probability and probability distributing are foundations of statistical analysis and inference. Probabilities can be found in all forms of life, when you flip a coin or roll a die the likelihood of getting heads vs tails or any number on the die is known as a probability. In statistics the probability distribution is a mathematical expression that gives you the likelihood of different outcomes in experiments or real-world situations.

This module will give you the chance to study different probability distributions –standard univariate and multivariate- and express them in their mathematical forms. You will do this by looking at descriptive statistics different types of data and formulate them in a probabilistic manner. You will then familiarise yourself with the basic mathematical theorems that underlie how we can predict expected values from random variables.
