Programming: Java and Databases for Bioinformatics

In this module you will explore the basic ideas involved in developing a piece of software to solve a problem by studying fundamental elements of the programming language Java. We will look at Graphical User Interfaces and applets, and at computer databases and how they can be designed and built. We will cover principles common to computer databases across all disciplines, but the exercises will focus on biological examples, using the theory to build and query biological relational databases.
