Jenna Stairs (MBChB Medicine, 2020)

Whilst studying Medicine at Leicester, Jenna Stairs joined the Officers Training Corps and the experience led her to pursue a medical career in the military.

In her second year of study, Jenna attended the Reserve Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. She received a bursary which meant she could become a doctor in the army on completion of her degree.

The University supported Jenna’s aspirations throughout her studies – she completed part of her degree at the Army Medical Reception Station in Dhelekia, Cyprus. Here, Jenna gained vital medical experience and an understanding of how army practices differ from the NHS.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jenna and her fellow class of 2020 graduated early so that they could support the NHS. She is currently working as an Interim Foundation Doctor for the NHS. After two years of service, Jenna will return to the army as a General Duties Medical Officer.
