Foundations of Clinical Leadership 1

Module code: MW1003

This module will introduce you to the key concepts of leadership in healthcare, and will encourage you to reflect on the skills, knowledge and behaviours you need to develop during the four years of the programme. You will be in small learning sets where you will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect upon your experiences of leadership in clinical practice with a local midwife/nurse leader.

Discussions will focus on developing your knowledge, skills and attitudes required for effective leadership, as well as the key theories of leadership and how these relate to personal development, clinical practice and the business of healthcare. You will also become familiar with the NHS Leadership Academy’s Nine Dimensions of Leadership:

  • Evaluating information
  • Connecting our service
  • Sharing the vision
  • Engaging the team
  • Holding to account
  • Developing capability
  • Influencing for results

By undertaking this module and successfully completing the assessment to demonstrate you have achieved the learning outcomes, will enable you to also obtain the Leicester Award.
