In this module you will examine key aspects of current teaching principles and practices and also gain valuable first-hand experience of classroom teaching and learning processes. An emphasis on developing a practical awareness of major language teaching and learning issues is achieved through the three main components of the module:

• Learning a foreign language through the University’s Languages at Leicester scheme, recording your experience in a learner diary
• Structured classroom observations of experienced teaching professionals in the University’s English Language Teaching Unit
• Weekly seminars aimed at understanding and analysing key teaching and learning issues arising from these activities through a range of discussion tasks

As well as experiencing and reflecting on current approaches to teaching in language classrooms and developing skills for the observation and evaluation of classroom practice, you will develop your own language teaching skills through peer group presentations and micro-teaching sessions.
